Mumbai, and a free stay at the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel, courtesy of the Taj Points programme. We'd collected so many points during our initial stay at the Taj Krishna in Hyderabad, that we were able to do two nights for free in Mumbai, although we did have to pay for the airfare. The Taj Mahal Palace is famous (in our books at least) for having NO GIN AT ALL in the entire hotel, or so they claimed after we'd asked for imported gin at the same price as domestic after they claimed that domestic was out of stock! Anyway, the guy at the hotel fabric shop redeemed the day when he supplied his car and driver to take us to find a print shop that he knew we'd never find. And I don't think it was run by his brother! Then a boat ride to Elephanta Island (which we'd been too knackered to attempt ten years ago) and a long haul up the trader infested steps to the living rock carved temples and the monkeys.
