Off with Denny, Jan, Alana and Connor to see Jodhpur and Jaisalmer, the highlight being a two day camel trip into the desert around Jaisalmer, which, as you know, is just about on the border with Pakistan, in the Thar desert. Rather than the romance of the desert, we were treated to a trip through an industrial estate in the baking heat, a delicious lunch (no, it was) and a night in something resembling Sainsbury's overflow car park. Jaisalmer however, was marvelous, a carved sandstone city, with the fort alive and lived in, and the decoration being renewed in style. The good folks at the Umaid Bahwan Palace Hotel in Jodhpur were kind enough to allow six dusty travellers into their opulent bar (unlike the miserable bastards at the Oberoi in Kolkatta who slung me out for dress code violation), and we were treated to a fine late afternoon drink, unfortunately not on the house.
